Task 3.1: Recycling of agricultural/industrial/solid wastes for building infrastructures
Task Leader(s): Dr. A. K. Minocha
Objective:
- Development of prefabricated building components, value added building products using recycled agricultural/ industrial/ solid waste construction and demolition (C&D) wastes/bagasse ash and evaluate their performance
Description of Task:
The issues of sustainability are of prime concerns these days as we use large amount of natural resources for producing materials such as concrete. Depletion of natural resources is one of such sustainability issues which we need to address in an efficient manner. When properly done, recycling wastes as building materials is a convenient way to reduce the environmental impact of the construction industry. Recycling has several potential environmental advantages, such as it reduces consumption of natural resources, reduces the deposition of landfill, reduce energy consumption of material production and its associated pollution etc. Therefore, utilization of Construction & Demolition (C&D) wastes/ Baggase ash/ M Sand in construction sector is necessary to reduce the social and environmental problems against disposal of wastes and depletion of natural aggregate resources. Efforts will be made to develop prefabricated value added building components like wall panels, light weight structural/non-structural elements for mass housing project and evaluate its engineering and durability performance.
Deliverables:
- Prefabricated value added building components like wall panels, light weight structural/non-structural elements for mass housing project using Agro / industrial / C&D waste & M-sand
