Task 5.2: Design of confined masonry construction using different types units (concrete masonry block, ACC block)
Task Leader(s): Dr. Ajay Chourasia
Objective:
- Confined masonry design solutions for mass housing for different units in different seismic zones
Description of Task:
CBRI conducted extensive studies on full-scale confined masonry (CM) buildings under quasi-static condition. The tests were conducted on CM constructed using solid burnt clay bricks/units. The test data was utilized for development of design guidelines. In recent years, there is a need to explore use of stone concrete and Auto-clave Aerated Concrete (AAC) blocks in CM construction. This calls for characterization of blocks and masonry, experimentally thereby perform numerical analysis to understand its behavior of CM walls. The detailed numerical study shall be performed on CM walls with different aspect ratios, openings when subjected to axial and lateral loads. Based on these results, formulation of design basis for construction of CM buildings using Stone Concrete and AAC Blocks for different seismic zones with different units shall be performed.
Deliverables:
- Design basis for Confined Masonry Buildings constructed using Stone Concrete or AAC blocks for mass housing projects in different seismic zones
