Task 6.1: Ground improvement technique to mitigate liquefaction hazards for safe building construction
Task Leader(s): Dr. S. Ganesh Kumar
Objective:
- Development of ground improvement technique for liquefaction mitigation
Description of Task:
Improving soil conditions to eliminate liquefaction potential needs special attention for safe and stable foundation structures.Though there are different ground improvement techniques available for mitigating liquefaction, there is always a continuous demand for composite foundation which provide solution for liquefaction problems. Ground improvement using geosynthetic encased stone columns is a well-known popular method for its improvement in load carrying capacity and pore pressure dissipation especially in soft clay soil. However research related to liquefaction mitigation using the above treatment method is very limited. Hence in this research work performance of encased stone column in liquefiable soil will be studied. Based on laboratory, analytical and field investigation, a composite foundation system will be developed for safe building construction for problematic soils.
Deliverables:
- Robust and economical composite foundation system for liquefiable / problematic soils
