Task 6.2: Ground improvement using granular pile anchor foundation (GPAF) system
Task Leader(s): Dr. Pradeep Kumar / Mr. KaushikPandit
Objective:
- Development of a holistic scheme for design, fabrication and construction of a granular pile anchor foundation system
Description of Task:
The construction of building on weak soils like plain alluvial soil found in the Indo-Gangetic region and coastal regions or the black cotton soil found in the South-Western India seem to be a serious issue. Hence there is a need to establish suitable ground improvement technique to improve the soil condition or suitable foundation technique which is safe and economical for practice in these regions. Granular piles can be used for compressive load condition, whereas granular anchor piles for uplift and lateral load conditions, and a combination of granular piles with any other suitable ground improvement technique according to the local soil conditions will be designed.
Deliverables:
- Design, fabrication and construction of a granular pile anchor foundation systems for mass housing.
- Design guidelines for construction of GPAF
